The South Carolina newspaper ignites turmoil by reporting the shocking death of a mentally ill Black man, whom two jail employees stunned ten times. Simultaneously, five attackers reportedly beat another inmate to death in a cell with unsecured doors.

In response to the unfortunate incident, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke said, “People confined in local jails across our country do not abandon their civil and constitutional rights at the jailhouse door. Incarceration should never carry with it the risk of death or serious harm” while addressing the media.
